Poem 11/29/2022: An Evening with Poets

An Evening With Poets
by Nina M. Holmstrom

I follow a path once traversed by school children
to an old brick building.
A turquoise door opens,
one by one we enter.
Older voices that recognize one another and greet with a familiar laugh.
We push tables and chairs around
the room until they form a square.
My feet shuffle underneath me,
I take the seat furthest away.
Her mouth opens and she reads the first poem.
I listen like a school girl enamored by a cute boy
telling a tall tale.
Her accent moves me and I wait for the next word to be spoken.
This poettress that beckoned us to come.
She makes it sound so easy.
We write.
We share.
We sculpt words together as a group.
We edit.
We create.
We are poets.
For one evening,
we are the eachother’s muse.
